Benteke's £32.5m release clause

Sherwood is confident Benteke wants to stay at Villa Park, but he has confirmed for the first time that there is a "quite substantial" buy-out clause in his deal that would trigger a move if met.
Benteke has scored 12 goals in his last 12 games ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final with Arsenal after regaining form and fitness under Sherwood.
The Belgium striker signed a four-year deal in 2013, after initially handing in a transfer request, and Sherwood admitted Villa face losing Benteke if the clause is met.
He said: "There's a buy-out clause in his contract so it will be impossible for us to stop him if he wants to go.
"Someone's got to meet that buy-out clause and if they don't, it won't be considered because we don't want to lose him.
"Everyone has it. Most players would have it when they sign new contracts. I don't know what the figure is, but I believe it will be quite substantial.
"He's made no indication that he wants to leave. I've not had a conversation with him. I've told you my view on it, I don't think he should be moving clubs before a European Championship.
"We're building up to a European Championship, which is a huge stage as well. It's a tournament where you feel that Belgium will be one of the favourites to win it.
"By playing for Aston Villa, it hasn't hindered him being the first choice at Belgium, up to now. So to come here and score at the ratio in which he has scored, since I have taken over, if he ends up scoring 20 or 30 goals next season, he is probably playing for Real Madrid."

Hull relegated to Championship after two years in top flight Tigers down 12 months after reaching FA Cup final Hull fail to score in half of 38 league games Fellaini sent off 18 minutes after introduction as substitute

Hull City's two-year stay in the Premier League came to an end as they drew with 10-man Manchester United at the KC Stadium. Steve Bruce's men had to win to give themselves any hope of survival. But Newcastle's victory against West Ham took the issue out of their hands, condemning Hull to relegation no matter what their own result. Hull did create chances, forcing Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes to make excellent saves to deny Ahmed Elmohamady and Nikica Jelavic. David Meyler wasted the hosts' clearest chance but they could not find a way through, even after Marouane Fellaini was sent off for a crude challenge on Paul McShane 13 minutes from time. Lack of goals Hull's downfall - Bruce Midfielder Robbie Brady tried to hold back tears at the final whistle as the Hull fans stayed on to show their support for the team. Hull's season started with optimism when they headed to Slovakia to face Odu Trencin in the Europa League on 31 July. Yet the eagerly awaited first European adventure was over by the end of August, having lasted just four matches. Their European campaign contributed two of only 10 victories since Hull's FA Cup final appearance against Arsenal 12 months ago, when they led by two goals but were beaten in extra time. Sunday's blank meant they failed to score in exactly half of their 38 league games. May we get this over with? Hull have never won a Premier League game in the month of May, drawing four and losing nine. Such a scenario cannot have been envisaged by Tigers owner Assem Allam, who sanctioned £40m to bring in 11 new players over the course of the season. The spending, evidently, has not proved value for money. Of the new recruits, only Michael Dawson and Dame N'Doye started the final attempt to salvage Hull's Premier League status. Abel Hernandez, a club-record £10m purchase from Palermo, scored just once in 21 appearances since starting his Hull career with three in five. Hull fans dejected Hull have been relegated for the second time in three Premier League campaigns And the Uruguayan might have caused more problems for himself when he appeared to punch United defender Phil Jones in the stomach as they grappled at a Hull corner following his introduction as a substitute. Jake Livermore was another expensive recruit at £8m. The 25-year-old was unavailable to face United, though, as he awaits the results of a B sample on a positive test for cocaine. Six years ago, Hull also went into a final-day encounter against Manchester United with their top-flight future on the line. Play media Jump media playerMedia player helpOut of media player. Press enter to return or tab to continue. Van Gaal praises Hull's 'amazing fans' They lost to a Darron Gibson goal that day, only for results elsewhere to save them and spark then-manager Phil Brown to burst into song. This time, they were the ones needing both a victory and assistance from other teams. However, as Hull had lost all seven previous top-flight encounters against their opponents, and former Red Devils captain Bruce had mustered the sum total of four draws from 21 games as a manager against his old club, the backdrop was hardly encouraging. A flurry of activity around the visitors' goal midway through the opening period brought both hope and frustration for Hull. McShane and N'Doye had the ball in the net within a couple of minutes of each other but both were ruled out for offside. In between, Elmohamady got on the end of Brady's cross and steered his header towards the bottom corner. Hull were still denied as Valdes, making his full United debut, dived low to save at his left-hand post.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the biggest football players in the world. The Swedish international player is known for the ability of ball control, and score awesome goals. Zlatan Ibrahimovic height is 195 centimeters, nearly 2 meters. With his height, he can reach the ball even when the ball is in the opponent’s player’s control.

He often use his long leg to reach the ball although two players are covering him. Opponenet players usually do not realize that the ball is going to be kicked by Zlatan because of the position. Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-Height-Biography-football-playersIn the air, of course Zlatan can reach the ball better that other players with normal height. Even when other players usually use the head to receive the ball, zlatan uses his foot. Report says that zlatan can reach the ball 3.7 meters in the air with his foot. Zlatan Ibrahimovic Skills and Short Biography He jumps as other players jump, with zlatan’s height, he jumps higher. He put his foot on top, and reaches the ball. He often use this way also to score. Zlatan is a crazy overhead kicker. He always scores beautiful overhead kicker. He can even score beautiful overhead kick goal from about 40 meters away. It was Sweden vs England Match back in 2012. The ball was passed far forward, and zlatan is marked by two England defenders. The ball was closer with Joe Hart, the England’s goalkeeper. Bad luck for Hart, it was outsidethe penalty box, he couldn’t use his hands. He used the head to put the ball away. Before Hart heads the ball away, Zlatan knew that and slowed down. When the two defenders were running to their empty goal, Zlatan ran toward the bouncing ball all alone. He realize that the goal is going to be covered by 3 England players soon. So he kicked the flying ball overhead. Goal. Zlatan has a black Tae Kwon Do belt. Maybe this is one of the reason why he always scores beautiful goal. tags: Biography, Football, Height, Players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Raheem Sterling to Man United? Football's controversial moves

Could Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling do the unthinkable and break a footballing taboo? The 20-year-old is set to ask for a move away from the Reds after they finished out of the Premier League's top four and failed to qualify for next season's Champions League. There will not be a shortage of takers should the Anfield side be willing to sell, and a shock candidate has emerged for his signature with rivals Manchester United interested - and a conversation between the two clubs has taken place. The last player to move between the clubs was Phil Chisnall more than 50 years ago, but is Sterling set for a controversial north-west switch? BBC Sport takes a look at other surprise moves between fierce rivals. Luis Figo: Barcelona to Real Madrid Barcelona fans Barcelona fans burned effigies of Luis Figo and threw a pig's head on the pitch after he moved to Real Madrid Probably the most high profile move between rivals? In 2000, Luis Figo became the world's most expensive footballer after swapping one Spanish giant for another. The £37m transfer of a player adored at the Nou Camp to the Bernabeu was seen as treachery by the fans, and they made their anger known when he returned to play against his old side for the first time. Supporters of the Catalan side went as far as throwing a pig's head onto the pitch, as well as burning an effigy of the Portugal winger during the game. Verdict: Success. Figo won the Champions League and two La Liga titles in his five seasons at the Bernabeu. Sol Campbell: Tottenham to Arsenal Tottenham fans Tottenham fans weren't pleased with Sol Campbell's move to Arsenal Not only did England centre-back Sol Campbell move across north London, he rubbed salt into the Tottenham wound by doing it on a free transfer. Campbell turned down offers from leading clubs in Europe such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich to stay in the Premier League after signing for Arsenal in 2001. He received a vitriolic reception on his return to White Hart Lane in November of that year, with supporters labelling the defender as "Judas". Verdict: Success. Two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a goal in the 2006 Champions League final vindicated his move.

The Page That Is Addicted To £3.20 Deals Is it a good or bad thing to have created fewer chances than Stewart Downing? That depends on what point you are making. Plus Phil Brown helps you jump the shark...

Stats All Folks Mediawatch is happy to admit that it finds statistics interesting, but we're acutely aware that, in the wrong hands, they become meaningless. After today, we're pretty sure that MailOnline is 'the wrong hands'. 'Liverpool have won all their games WITHOUT Raheem Sterling (and just 40.4% with)... the stats that say the winger who wants out of Anfield is NOT worth it,' reads their headline. Are we allowed to use our eyes? In truth we can't stomach to get past the bullet points at the top, but nor do we need to. They contain plenty enough guff for one day. Firstly the headline: 'Liverpool have won all their games WITHOUT Raheem Sterling (and just 40.4% with)' That's true, but only if you exclude the games where he was introduced as a substitute. Sterling missed the first 61 minutes of the 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa and the first 69 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid, but we'll ignore that eh? Sterling has also only missed two Premier League matches all season, so congratulations to MailOnline for the smallest sample going. 'Sterling ranks 91st in the Premier League for most successful passes.' That's probably because Sterling has predominantly played as a winger or a central striker. Players in central midfield or central defence are far more likely to complete more passes. Judging an attacker by the number of passes completed is like judging a full-back by how many shots he has had. 'The England starlet has made fewer successful crosses than Alan Hutton' Indeed, but Hutton hasn't made 47% of his starts in a central position, has he? Thus negating the need to cross. Hutton has also completed more crosses than Juan Mata, Ryan Bertrand, Aaron Cresswell, James Milner, Alexis Sanchez, Samir Nasri and Seamus Coleman. Presumably their clubs will 'NOT miss' those players? 'Sterling has tried as many dribbles as Crystal Palace's Yannick Bolasie' To translate: Only Eden Hazard has attempted as many dribbles as Raheem Sterling in the Premier League. Only Hazard, Sanchez and Philippe Coutinho have completed more. 'He has created 75 chances - 10 fewer than West Ham's Stewart Downing' To translate: Only six players in the Premier League have created more chances than Sterling. Two of those (including Downing) have played more minutes. For Liverpool supporters who feel glum today, Mediawatch brings glad tidings. Last season, Liverpool lost 19% of the matches in which Luis Suarez played, but 14% in which he played no part. THE STATS SAY LIVERPOOL ARE BETTER OFF WITHOUT SUAREZ. Lies and damn lies... Sterling Silver 'Pell Will Pay £100m' reads the headline in The Sun. Goodness, that's quite the story guys. Most of the rumours regarding Raheem Sterling have discussed possible transfer fees of £40m or £50m. And yet Manchester City's manager will pay double that fee? Apart from that he didn't say anything of the sort, of course. The quote in question is this: "It is important to have English players but can you sign them? You are talking about trying to sign players from clubs that won't sell them. Can you get Sterling? Maybe if you go to Liverpool with £100 million you can." That quote was made by Manuel Pellegrini on March 16. From "maybe", "if" and "can" to 'will' in two months. Top work. This Could Be Yevhen For Everyone 'Tottenham 'agree transfer deal for Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka'' reads the headline on the Metro website. When Mediawatch sees something in inverted commas on their website, the bulls**t alarm sounds loudly. 'Spurs were believed to be close to signing him in January, only for the player to put the switch on hold until the summer. And now reports in Ukraine say an agreement has been reached for Konoplyanka to move to White Hart Lane this summer.' Those 'reports in Ukraine' link through to a story on Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk's own website. Our fluency in Ukrainian unearths the following sentence: 'According to the British press, the Spurs could announce the signing of Ukrainian as early as next week.' So that's according to reports in Ukraine, according to reports in Britain, then. A non-stop cycle of vague misery. Further investigation reveals the origin of the rumour to be this throwaway line on MailOnline from Sunday: 'Tottenham, who sent scouts to watch Konoplyanka play against Club Brugge in the Europa League quarter-finals last month, are believed to be favoured by the player. Spurs face competition from Everton, West Ham, Monaco and Inter Milan, who are also keen on the talented winger.' That is where the trail ends. From 'are believed to be' to 'agree transfer deal' in three days, via the Ukraine and back.

F365's Managerial Career Paths Quiz - The Questions We give you the career path and you work out the manager, of which each have plied their trades in the top flight of English football. Some clubs may be missing, but all are in order...

Champions League final (2005) Gerrard's finest hour as he inspired a brilliant Liverpool comeback in the most dramatic European Cup final in history. Trailing AC Milan 3-0 at half-time, Rafa Benitez's men looked down and out. But Gerrard had other ideas, heading one back before creating space for Vladimir Smicer to add a second and winning the penalty for Xabi Alonso to equalise. Liverpool eventually won on penalties and Gerrard declared: "Lifting the trophy has to be the best feeling ever." FA Cup final (2006) A defining moment of Gerrard's career came when he smashed home a 35-yard, 90th-minute equaliser against West Ham in the 2006 FA Cup final. The Liverpool captain had earlier set up Djibril Cisse and scored himself to pull Liverpool back from 2-0 down, but produced something special to cancel out West Ham's third. Gerrard then made no mistake from the spot as Liverpool won what has become known as 'The Gerrard Final' on penalties. Stunner against Olympiakos (2004) Liverpool's famous Champions League win in 2005 would never have happened had it not been for another moment of Gerrard magic. With time running out, Liverpool needed a third goal against Olympiakos to progress from the group stages. The skipper stepped up and rifled a stunning strike from distance into the net to spark wild celebrations in the Kop. Double over United (2001) Gerrard has scored nine goals against Manchester United - but his finest effort was surely the long-range piledriver which set Liverpool on course to complete their first double over their rivals in 22 years. Fabien Barthez couldn't get close to the ball as Gerrard lashed it into the top corner, before celebrating in front of the Anfield faithful. Hat-trick against Everton (2012) Ahead of kick-off, David Moyes was celebrating 10 years in charge at Everton; by the final whistle it was Gerrard who was smiling, after scoring a superb hat-trick to defeat Liverpool's local rivals. It was the first time a player had scored three in a Merseyside derby at Anfield since 1935 and took Gerrard past Robbie Fowler's goal-scoring record in the fixture. A cool lob over Tim Howard was followed by clinical finishes from Luis Suarez assists, with Gerrard racking up his seventh goal against Everton in the final minute. Double in 4-0 win over Real Madrid (2009) Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a stunning 4-0 win over Real Madrid at Anfield in 2009, with Gerrard scoring twice. Former Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres and Andrea Dossena were also on the scoresheet as Liverpool destroyed Los Blancos 5-0 on aggregate. League Cup win over United (2003) Liverpool may have finished the 2002/03 season 19 points behind Premier League winners Manchester United but their fans could treasure a League Cup final win, thanks to another long-range Gerrard stunner. The skipper's drive took a deflection off David Beckham, leaving Barthez with no chance, before Michael Owen settled the contest four minutes from time. Liverpool win the treble (2001) "The treble is actually a better achievement than Istanbul," Jamie Carragher has said. "Istanbul as a one-off will never be beaten by anyone but someone wins the Champions League every year. To win three cup competitions in one season, that's not something that happens very often, not just at Liverpool but anywhere." In 2001 Liverpool lifted the League Cup by beating Birmingham on penalties, the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Arsenal and completed the treble in the UEFA Cup, where Gerrard scored as Liverpool eventually defeated Alaves 5-4 after extra-time in the final.

Some Striking Options For Liverpool... Liverpool seem intent on signing Danny Ings from Burnley. With at least another striker needed, WhoScored.com look at some other young forwards lighting up Europe...

It's been a strange season for Liverpool. For all of the criticism sent their way, the Reds have been in the race for a Champions League berth. That's despite the fact that a goal at Stamford Bridge on Steven Gerrard Appreciation Day saw Liverpool's departing captain take the outright lead as their top scorer for the season. He has just eight. Sunday was also a game in which Chelsea's defenders, courtesy of John Terry's early opener, stretched their scoring advantage over Liverpool's strikers (nine to seven). For Liverpool, the presence of a fit and in-form forward has denied them a place in Europe's elite club competition. It's no surprise then that Liverpool have been linked with a number of big-money signings to arrest their striking woes this season. Christian Benteke, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mauro Icardi are all apparent targets. However, in a week in which the Reds have seemingly moved a step closer to completing a deal for Burnley's Danny Ings, WhoScored.com take a look at a number of the young, affordable alternatives they could have targeted in Ings' stead. We start our search in France, where Liverpool were active last summer in securing a deal for Lille's Divock Origi. The Belgian is set to return to Anfield this summer but, after netting just four goals from open play in Ligue Un (and three in a single match), it's fair to say the fans' enthusiasm for his arrival has waned after an eye-catching World Cup. Elsewhere in the French top flight. Origi's compatriot Michy Batshuayi has been making waves after a slow start to his Marseille career. With Bielsa's side now in real danger of missing out on a Champions League place next season, their prized assets could yet be stripped. While he only signed for l'OM from Standard Liege last summer, Batshuayi is among those sure to be attracting interest. In just 872 minutes of league action this season, Belgium's 21-year old international has scored an impressive nine goals. Of all players to score more than five times in Ligue 1, nobody has scored more often (every 96.8 minutes). Of that same group of players only two have a better conversion rate (25.7%). With an impressive first touch and ability to use his body to hold off opponents, in addition to his obvious prowess in front of goal, Batshuayi's stay in Marseille could be a brief one.

Pogba: The Star Of The Next Generation The future of Paul Pogba is discussed more than any other player, which tells you all you need to know. He is the complete footballer at 22, and is only going to get better...

The figures grow more startling with each passing rumour. The latest claim (this time from the Daily Mirror) is that Manchester City are prepared to pay Paul Pogba £250,000 per week after tax, which equates to £385,000 before HMRC take their share. Pogba would become the highest-paid player in English football history. His agent, Mino Raiola, has his own typically ambitious opinion. "Pogba is worth twice as much as Gareth Bale," Raiola says. Yet Raiola is right to be assertive regarding his client's worth. Pogba is the game's newest superstar, the next on the production line of more complete players than have ever gone before. It is not just City who will court Pogba, but Barcelona, Paris St Germain and Real Madrid too. Basically, it's a who's who of clubs that spend their time cavorting with the Middle East's rich and famous. Suggesting that Pogba is world football's Next Big Thing contains no shred of hyperbole. At 22 he is already a star. He has the fame, the temperament and the haircut. He has his own personal dietician and physician too - these things matter. In last summer's World Cup Pogba was christened Pogiba by the adoring locals, and his Twitter account shot to fame after his mother and brothers used it to create a Pogba family cartoon with Paul taking on the world. There isn't a jumper for goalpost in sight - this is a very modern tale. Pogmania didn't officially start until last July, however. That was the first recorded incident of the phrase 'the new Pogba'. PSG's Kingsley Coman, St-Etienne's Rayan Souici and Sporting Lisbon's Bubacar Djalo have all been subjected to that absurd tag. Only on Sunday the Newcastle Chronicle were touting Newcastle to sign 'the next Paul Pogba' - Jeff Reine-Adelaide from Lens. We live in strange sporting times. Crucially, Pogba is not merely a mirage, a false promise of greatness. Too often a media frenzy is a thin façade for a young player lacking in certain aspects of his game or personality. After just 73 career league starts, we can rule that out with Pogba. This kid is the real deal. The plaudits for Pogba come from all the great and good in Italian and French football. "Pogba is the only player who truly has everything in his game," says Fabio Capello, whilst Didier Deschamps describes a player for whom "everything just seems easy". Zinedine Zidane pointedly labels Pogba as Paul Scholes' natural heir at Manchester United. "He will go on to be one of the best central midfield players in Europe and he was the natural successor to Paul Scholes, someone they could have built the team around," Zidane says. I'm choosing to ignore the elephant in Old Trafford for reasons of brevity. You all know the story.

Jamie Carragher urges Steven Gerrard not to cry on Liverpool farewell

Jamie Carragher has urged Steven Gerrard not to shed any tears when he makes his Anfield farewell on Saturday. The Liverpool captain will play in his final home game for the club against Crystal Palace, live on Sky Sports, before joining LA Galaxy in the MLS this summer. Former Liverpool team-mate Carragher will be at Anfield for what is expected to be an emotional occasion, but says Gerrard must not break down in tears like Sami Hyypia did when he left the club in 2009. Liverpool v Crystal Palace Liverpool 4/9 Draw 10/3 Crystal Palace 6/1 Football Betting Bet £5 Get £20 Free “I think he’ll be looking forward to the game and will get a great send-off,” he told Monday Night Football. “His last game is the week after at Stoke, but for me this is his last game. It’s at Anfield, where he’s been his whole career. “Nervous is the wrong word. He will be looking forward to it, but it will start to really sink in now that he’s not going to play there again. “I just hope he doesn’t start crying and all that nonsense at the end or get emotional. Sami Hyypia did that…” Liverpool vs C Palace May 16, 2015, 5:00pm Live on Sky Sports 1 HD Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Gerrard received a standing ovation when he was substituted during Sunday’s Premier League 1-1 draw with Chelsea, before telling Sky Sports: "It was nice of Chelsea fans to turn up for once". However, Carragher argued he should have stayed on the pitch to help Liverpool find a winner that would have kept them in the hunt for a Champions League place. He added: “It wasn’t so much Gerrard coming off, but more Lucas coming on. Stevie got the goal in the game and he can take penalties and free-kicks. “Brendan Rodgers said he wanted to take him off for the ovation, but I think the best thing about that was what he said after the game. That was probably the most entertaining part of it! “I would have liked to have seen him stay on. If he was going to come off then maybe a more offensive player should have come off to try and get a goal?”

Bayern Munich favourites for Barcelona Champions League clash, says Graham Hunter

Pep Guardiola's thorough 'pre-planning' makes Bayern Munich favourites for their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Barcelona, says Graham Hunter. Former Barca boss Guardiola was knocked out at the semi-final stage with his new side last season against Real Madrid, having won the competition in 2009 and 2011 with the Catalan club. He is hoping to go one better this time around, and Hunter says he will know the weaknesses of his former side in the run-up to the first leg at the Nou Camp on Wednesday. v Live UEFA Champions League Barcelona vs Bay Munich May 6, 2015, 7:00pm Sky Sports 1 HD Get a Sky Sports Pass Upgrade to Sky Sports He said on Revista De La Liga: "I think Pep knows the weaknesses of the Barca players, he left partly because he saw the decline. "He always claims the thing he does best it to rip apart the opponents in the pre-planning, and instruct his players how to defeat them. "If he is good to his word and does that over the two legs, that makes them favourites." Barcelona: In fine form at the moment Fellow Revista pundit and former Newcastle midfielder Marcelino disagrees, and says the injuries to Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery and David Alaba make Barcelona favourites, adding that Guardiola and Luis Enrique could cancel each other out tactically. He said: "I think Barcelona are coming into this stage of the season at their peak. "With the three players [Suarez, Messi, Neymar] up front they are terrific. You know those three can score two or three a game.

Arsene Wenger challenges Arsenal to mount title challenge next season after comfortable Hull win Read more at http://talksport.com/football/arsene-wenger-challenges-arsenal-mount-title-challenge-next-season-after-comfortable-hull#oiz4KHWcFfgJbl4p.99

Two goals from Alexis Sanchez and another from Aaron Ramsey completed the damage in a devastating first half performance, with Hull’s consolation coming through Stephen Quinn’s header. Arsenal are 11 games unbeaten after a stellar Premier League run in recent months, and Wenger has implored his players to maintain their consistency to mount a serious challenge next campaign. “Chelsea are worthy winners this season because they have been the most consistent team of all. Let’s finish the season well, prepare well for next season and give them a good fight,” said the Gunners’ boss. “I’m always optimistic. In our job, if you are pessimistic you don’t go far. I feel that we have made progress.” The Gunners’ form in the first half of the season was patchy by comparison, and Wenger cited a lack of preparation time before the season as a defining factor in their ultimately feeble title bid. He said: “Not all of these players were available at the start of the season. Many came back with problems after the World Cup. “We maybe found a better balance between going forward and defending in the second half of the season.”
